Welcome to the desolate wasteland before the thunderstorm
I wanted to create an environment that was unsettling, but not horror or particularly dark or violent. I went with a clashing color scheme and made the sky an unnatural color. This was combined with buildings that were uneven to appear shoddy to create a rather dense atmosphere. I am responsible for all aspects of this project.
Above you can see some progress images. At this point I had finished my model kit and had begun to construct some of the homes in the town. I had also locked down details such as the tone, the color palette, and the overall atmosphere - the eerie, misty, and unsettling appearance.
Above I have my two primary model kits. The top image is the modular kit I used for the structures themselves. I wanted to have a 'bent-out' sort of look to make everything a little less stable-feeling. This presented numerous challenges, but came out great in the end. The image below is the detail props I used to make the environment feel a little more alive.
What if this location was a tropical beach getaway with azure waters, white sand, palm trees, and a warm sun?
